Thursday Pony League 7:00 pm

What is Pony League?
Pony League is a great opportunity for new bowlers to practice their skills and for other less experienced bowlers to gain experience playing different positions on a team. The emphasis is on learning and practice in a non-competitive environment.
How long does a game last?
Morning games are 10 ends, evening games are 12 ends and are completed in about two hours.
Is there a fee for new bowlers?
There is an introductory fee for first year players who have never bowled at any club before and it includes four free lessons.
Participants in Aggregates pay a one-time enrolment fee of $5 per Aggregate. This fee is used to award prize money at the end of the season. The Saturday Short Jacks is a drop-in, with a $1 fee each week. The money is paid out to members of winning teams at the end of play each evening.
How many lessons and when do they start?
You will be assigned a coach and he/she will contact you to arrange a convenient time. Each lesson is approximately one hour long. You will have four lessons.
What is an Aggregate?
An Aggregate is a series of single games played weekly for a set number of weeks. The one-time $5 entry fees are pooled and a portion of the fees are awarded as cash prizes to the players having the highest scores in an Aggregate at the end of the season.
Do I have to play every week of the season?
No, when you participate in an Aggregate you are not on a particular team, teams are drawn from the members present that day. You will play with different players every time, a great opportunity to make new friends and meet people.
How do I know what teams I'm on when I come to bowl?
When you arrive at the clubhouse, you pick up your name card from the slots by the clubhouse door and put it on the table for the convenor. The name cards are then arranged by the convenor based on position played - skip, third, second or lead. New bowlers are usually "leads". Rink numbers are placed in a bag. Skips or team leaders draw first to find out which rink they will play on. Then the rest of the players draw their rink number, and teams are formed for that game.
Do I need to buy bowls?
No, first-year players use a set of club bowls, free of charge. Second-year players may rent club bowls for small fee. It is usually possible to purchase used bowls at a reasonable price.
How long is the bowling season?
For 2024, the season is May through September.
Do I have to wear whites?
No, comfortable clothing is the rule when playing lawn bowls. Whites/club shirts are worn on Opening Day, Club visits, some holidays, and all levels of Club championship competition. Some holiday events have special colours, e.g. for BC Day, "Red/Yellow/Blue".
Are there any special requirements?
Yes, it is important to keep our green in top playing condition. Correct footwear is required - flat soles and no heels. Please consult with one of the Club coaches to ensure that your shoes comply.
Do we play in the rain?
Not usually, if it is raining heavily bowling is cancelled. If it starts to rain during a game, we try to complete eight ends before quitting, depending on conditions. Bowling does not take place during thunder storms.
Are there any fun events?
Yes, every day spent bowling is fun! Also, in addition to our regular bowling times, we have some special events.
Holiday bowling takes place on Victoria Day, Canada Day, BC Day and Labour Day. You can bowl in morning and afternoon games, followed by a Club dinner.
Winter socials - Christmas, come out and party!
Cards - Bridge, Cribbage and Mah Jong are played on weekday afternoons throughout the winter months and Mah Jong is played on Wednesdays year round.
